Basis of design
Site
Shackleton crater rim, 89.9°S. Sun on the peaks, ice in the shadow below.
Crew
24 in single cabins. Eight surge cots in the shelter if a lander crew is still on the pad.
Power
1.2 MWe design point from three rim masts. The buried hall holds about 48 hours on regen fuel cells.
Shielding
8 ft (2.4 m) sintered regolith over the pressure shell. Storm shelter adds a 2 ft water wall.
Life support
98% water closure, Sabatier oxygen, dual strings. Raw ice is assayed and distilled before it is potable.
Crops
7,200 SF of lamp-lit benches. Salad and herbs. Calories still come up on the landers.
Structure
Rigid composite shell on a sintered pad. The cover bears on its own grillage so it does not load the pressure wall.
How to read
A-101 and A-102 are one unit per foot, and the number in each room is its area. Corridors are drawn and not counted. C-101 is diagrammatic.
